Arnis
William Varner and Wes Lammay teach the Arnis classes at VBAMA. William has been studying the Filipino Martial Arts since May 1990. He studied the Inosanto system under Paul Vunak and one of Paul's senior students, (Paul had a contract to train the Navy Seals in Virginia Beach during the late '80s and early '90s before returning to California). William has almost 40 hrs. of seminar instruction under Dan Inosanto himself. After realizing that training with instructors who live in California would be tenuous at best he sought out and trained with various other Kali/Escrima/Arnis experts closer to home. Men like Carlito Lanada of Kuntaw, Jose' DeGuzman of Pangasinan Escrima, Sergio Cruz of Laguna Luzon, and Billy Bryant of Cadena De Mano (under whom William earned an Advance Instructors Certificate). William (who is a mestizo filipino from the Baguio family) has decided to dedicate his study of Filipino Martial Arts to the Sayas-Lastra method (which he has trained in for over three years) in which he holds an instructors certification.
Wes Lammay is a full instructor in Sayas-Lastra Arnis. Wes teaches adults only at our Academy, so that he can get right down the "bare bones" of the art and not have to worry about children abusing this very lethal and sometimes very graphic martial art. Wes teaches in the old tradition-to get a student to a high level of proficiency in the shortest time possible, instead of milking them for tuition over a long period of time.
